The first election under the new constitution in Thailand has resulted in military junta leader Suchinda Kraprayoon becoming prime minister, a post he previously said he would not accept. He has given up all his military positions, but the armed forces remain very much in power in Thailand.

General elections will be held in Thailand in March of 1992. One politician sees no difference since the military coup almost a year ago. The army officers will organize the elections, causing politicians to buy votes rather than depending on democratic processes.
