DIY goods in Belgium

The Belgian market for DIY products has shown a steady growth, but the rate of growth has declined since 1994. The market was worth BFr 103 billion in 1996, which was a 2% increase on 1995 figures. Government austerity measures and price competition are major factors in the declining growth rate. The forecast is for the market to continue to grow, but for the growth rate to be modest, due to continuing government measures and to weakness in the housing market. Belgians spend more than most other nationalities on DIY products, with an annual expenditure per head of $334.

Power tools in France
Article Abstract:
The retail market for power tools in France is estimated to be between FFr1.4 billion and FFr1.9 billion, representing around 2-3% of the total FFr90.5 billion DIY market. Production Outillage Electronique (POE) is the only domestic producer of power tools, with sales of FFr250 million in 1996. The total volume market for power tools amounts to some three million units. Among the leading overseas suppliers are market leader Bosch and Black & Decker, which, together with POE, account for some 66% of total volume and value sales.
