DENMARK: SOLAR CELL ELECTRICITY ON A LARGE SCALE

Article Abstract:

Solar cell electricity can be developed on a larger scale as there are no big technological or financial obstacles, says Terjei Haaland at Greenpeace Denmark. He says oil companies such as Shell and BP-Amoco should invest in solar cell plants; if a large plant for about DKr 3.5bn (USD 0.5bn) is built, solar cell prices could be lowered by three thirds. This is shown in a report made by the international consultancy firm KPMG for Greenpeace.

DENMARK: CONVERTER FOR SOLAR CELLS

Article Abstract:

Miljostyrelsen, the Danish environment authority, has granted subsidies totaling nearly DKr 500,000 (USD 63,000) to the company Oi-Electric for the development of a converter for energy transmission between solar cells and batteries. Oi-Eletric aims at increasing capacity by 15-20%. This could reduce battery consumption by about 38%, according to the company.

DENMARK: DANIONICS TO INVEST IN EXPANSION

Article Abstract:

Danionics, the Danish battery manufacturer, will invest DKr 500 million (US$ 59 mn) in new production facilities in Odense. A joint venture in Asia is reportedly also in the pipeline. Danionics have recently received orders from Compaq, and from another producer of palmtop computers.
