The major Danish retail group Dansk Supermarked is successfully launching dairy products imported from Germany under its own brand Engholm. After only two weeks on the market, Engholm's whipping cream and butter account for more than 50% of Dansk Supermarked's sales of these products. According to sources in the dairy sector, MD Foods has lost turnover totaling DKr 200mn (USD 28mn) in butter and cream sales only owing to this success. Furthermore, Engholm's creme fraiche and fromage frais account for 35-40% of Dansk Supermarked's sales of these products.

Gronvang, the Danish margarine plant, has started producing kosher margarine. In the next three years, the company will supply the Jewish market with 10,000-12,000 tonnes of kosher margarine annually. So far, production capacity has reached 4,000 tonnes. Danish Dairy Company MD Foods launches the popular spreadable Kaergarden in Norway under the name Lurpak Smorbar. Danish butter has not been sold in Norway earlier, due to high import quotas. However, since Kaergarden is a blend between butter and margarine, the quotas do not apply. Norwegian retailers are reportedly becoming increasingly interested in these products.
