The sales of luxury passenger cars rose in the March 1999-March 2000 period while overall car sales reported a 22% drop in the same period. The sales of cars priced at more than DKr500,000 (US$60,970) amounted to 1,250 in the period.

In January, car sales in Denmark were reduced by 19% compared with January 1999. The January 2000 sales were the lowest since December 1995, if June and July 1997, when the car excise was changed, are excluded.

Article Abstract:

In 1999, 144,116 new cars were sold in Denmark. Compared with 1998, sales declined by 11%. The decline is attributed to purchases by households; businesses' purchases increased compared with the previous year.
