Article Abstract:
NASA plans to crash Lunar Prospector, a space probe, into the moon, and discover whether there is water in the form of ice in lunar craters. The probe has little fuel left, needs a new battery, and no longer attracts funding, so it is to be sacrificed. The aim is to gain some information through the sacrifice. Other crashes could be carried out in order to investigate asteroids and other celestial bodies. Commercial communications satellites could also be used for this purpose.
