Coopers & Lybrand Corporate Finance regards providing an advisory service to management buyout and buy-in teams as a core activity, and is one of the few accounting firms with a discrete team of MBO specialists. Lybrand acted on 55 completed deals worth 940 million pounds sterling in the first eight months of 1995, and says that since 1992 it has acted on a third of all deals by value. One trend which has been noticed by Lybrand partner Peter Jacobs is towards higher quality deals and higher quality services from MBO practitioners.

Coopers and Lybrand has seen an increase in new capital in UK buyout funds in the two years to 1995, and much of this is likely to be invested in operations in mainland Europe. Coopers can act as lead adviser for management teams and services offered include help with business plans, contacts for sources of funds, helping with negotiations and dealing with tax issues. There are a number of factors which contribute to the success of buyouts, including industry expertise.
