Clinton's trip

Article Abstract:

The US visit to Israel and Palestine has been followed by a statement that progress was being made on the Wye agreement, yet Israeli prime minister, Binyami Netanyahu, has announced that he has effectively frozen implementation of the agreement. Netanyahu is seeking the support of the political right in the Israeli cabinet. New elections may be held in April 1999 if his position on peace negotiations is not accepted. President Bill Clinton has shown understanding of the Palestinians' position and has used an even handed tone in his visit.
