The Beijing University or Beida to the alumni, has been instrumental in the changes seen in China, from the time of Chairman Mao Tse-tung and the dominance of the Communist Party to the free-market reforms of Chairman Deng Xiaoping. The University was formerly the instrument of the goverment to push its Communist ideals, but was later transformed into the epitome of academic freedom with the arrest of the Gang of Four and the second ascendancy of Deng. Many of Beida's alumni served as the instrument of China's rural transformation and the loosening of Communist ideals in the field of economics.

The development of a distinct identity for Australian cuisine started some 20 years ago when Australians incorporated native plants and animals into European cooking. Australian cuisine has evolved into the distinct use of native plants and animals as bases for the cuisine. Kangaroo and emu meat are now accepted Australian fare, as well as witjuti, the dry zone Acacia tree grub worm for the more daring palate. Creative chefs are using Asian and European culinary influences to bring out more innovative Australian cuisine.

The Instituto de Formacao Turistica in Macau is launching a campaign to project the country's unique cuisine internationally. A variety of classes for cooks and degree candidates are being offered that concentrate on the Macanese dishes that have evolved throughout the years. The Macau population mostly consists of Chinese and Portuguese, with the Macanese only amounting to 8,000-10,000, emphasizing the campaign's importance in stressing a culture that is depleting.
