Chaos in Cambodia

Article Abstract:

There are a number of aspects of the recent elections in Cambodia that are a cause for concern, even though the main international observer group approved the electoral process. The campaign was characterized by intimidation and violence, but there is a danger that outside observers will now overlook these concerns. It is now vital for the foreign sponsors of the election to ensure that a full investigation is made of charges of electoral fraud, as it will be very difficult to establish a legitimate government unless this happens.

A coup in Cambodia

Article Abstract:

Second Prime Minister Hun Sen has successfully engineered a coup in Cambodia. Senior Prime Minister Prince Norodom Ranariddh has been ousted, and has escaped to Thailand. Thirty-two persons are listed as dead in the fighting, although the number is believed to be much higher.

Article Abstract:

Political violence has increased as the upcoming general elections to be supervised by the United Nations nears. The Khmer Rouge has so far staged two attacks on ethnic Vietnamese settlers. The UN is persevering in its plans.
