Article Abstract:
There are a number of aspects of the recent elections in Cambodia that are a cause for concern, even though the main international observer group approved the electoral process. The campaign was characterized by intimidation and violence, but there is a danger that outside observers will now overlook these concerns. It is now vital for the foreign sponsors of the election to ensure that a full investigation is made of charges of electoral fraud, as it will be very difficult to establish a legitimate government unless this happens.

Second Prime Minister Hun Sen has successfully engineered a coup in Cambodia. Senior Prime Minister Prince Norodom Ranariddh has been ousted, and has escaped to Thailand. Thirty-two persons are listed as dead in the fighting, although the number is believed to be much higher.
