CITIBANK LAUNCHES ONLINE BANKING IN BANGALORE

Article Abstract:

Citibank launched its on-line transaction banking scheme called Suvidha at Bangalore on November 26, 1998. The concept will be tested at Bangalore for another year to remedy all problems associated with an emerging technology. Suvidha, which was unofficially launched earlier in 1998, has already mobilised deposits of Rs24 crore from 20,000 account holders. The Suvidha scheme offers 24-hour facilities including PC banking, on-line shopping at over 1000 stores in Bangalore, Citiphone, Money Multiplier and automated teller machines among others. (khr)

A TEQUILA SUNRISE FOR BANGALORE

Article Abstract:

DCM Remy Ltd (DRL), a 50:50 joint venture between Remy and the DCM Shriram group, plans to launch the famous Mexican drink tequila under the brand name, Tres Magueyes Tequila (TMT) in Bangalore. DRL has priced a 750 ml bottle of TMT Blanco at Rs700. DRL will import 55 percent tequila concentrate which will be diluted to 38 percent and bottled at Meerut in Uttar Pradesh before being sold in the Indian market. TMT, India's first branded tequila, has already been launched in Mumbai and Goa. (rs)

UDIL NOT TO VENTURE INTO IMFL PRODUCTION

Article Abstract:

United Distillers India Ltd (UDIL), a liquor bottler, has decided not to manufacture Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL). It is to import the scotch concentrate in bulk and bottle it in India. UDIL holds a 30 percent stake in the Indian scotch market. It has an installed capacity of 1 lakh cases of liquor at its plant in Nashik. Now it produces about 30,000 cases. In 1997-98, its sales were Rs21.5 crore (Rs15 crore in 1996-97). Its net loss was Rs50 lakh (Rs2.5 crore loss). (ag)
