Bush to Chen: don't risk it

Article Abstract:

The United States has sent messages to the Taiwan President, Chen Shui-bian, revealing their view that support to the regime comes with conditions and shall be based on the President's inaugural speech scheduled for May 20, 2004. Analysts are wary that the President may try to legitimize Taiwan's independence from the mainland and the U.S. has warned that any such destabilizing moves may well mean withdrawal of support.
