The consumer-driven market of Philippines is the major driver for the country's economic growth. In the Review 200 of year 2003 burger chain Jollibee Foods and brewer San Miguel Corp. grab the top two positions. Jollibee's ability to adapt its burgers to local tastes, outsells McDonald's in the Southeast Asian archipelago.

Philippines security officials states that the New People's Army (NPA) that is one of the most dangerous, communist groups is becoming involved in mainstream politics. NPA uses strong-arm tactics during an election campaign that is candidates who wish to canvass for votes from their areas have to pay money to the NPA.
