Article Abstract:

There is a new mood of optimism in Belfast, Northern Ireland, even though the ceasefire has now been broken. This is reflected in the fact that a number of large construction projects are now underway in the city. New uses are being found for redundant industrial buildings, while landmark buildings are also being renovated and put to new uses. The city has a growing number of architectural practices, and Protestant and Catholic groups have been meeting to discuss possible future projects.

A showcase for clothes

Article Abstract:

Jonathan Ellis-Miller has been responsible for designing a second Guilio menswear shop in Cambridge, England. The design aims to give prominence to the designer clothes displayed in the shop, and has features including a very light interior. The walls and floor are finished in Portland stone, and the overall design is extremely uncluttered. The shop is divided into three clear areas, and the walls are clad in mirrors.

Station aims to take the stress out of bus travel

Article Abstract:

Refurbishment work at Buchanan Bus Station in Glasgow, Scotland, has included extensive renewal of the station concourse, simplifying the way it operates. The scheme, designed by The Jenkins Group, provides for three stance locations in the bus forecourt, and a new extended glazed canopy has been added.
