Pres Bush's competent but lackluster performance in the debates failed to give him a boost in the polls, which still show a double-digit Clinton lead. The Bush campaign has failed to state its case on the economy, lapsing instead into far-fetched character attacks.

The Republicans behaved in a base manner at the convention by being divisive and allowing Pat Buchanan to claim that a 'religious war' is taking place. Honesty about issues, instead of posturing, is needed by both political parties.

Article Abstract:

George Bush has been seeing some resurgence in his presidential campaign. His latest move to suggest four debates instead of three has improved public opinion about him. Ross Perot's re-entry into the race will also help Bush.
