Article Abstract:
A survey of Asian lifestyles shows that family values are important and children are expected to care for aged parents. Respondents tend to want only two children except in the Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore, where they would prefer three, and they tend to want boys. It is becoming less common for generations to share the same roof. The likelihood of political instability causes concern among three quarters of respondents though the particular issue of Hong Kong's relations with China causes least concern to the people of Hong Kong themselves.
