Bell Helicopter Textron Inc has issued an independent 'Request for Information' solicitation notice for firms that might be interested in taking over the mission computer project for its newly re-manufactured AH- 1W/Z Cobra and UH-1N troop lift helicopters. The project had been awarded to Litton Industries, which appears to be having severe problems in its development of the new integrated avionics suite for the aircraft. If Bell changes vendors for the integrated mission computer project, it could very well result in a major contractual delay.

Sikorsky CEO Dean Borgman says the Black Hawk is at the core of the company's defense strategy, although the Comanche continues to be the US Army's topmost priority. He predicts the US government to order around 36 Black Hawks in various versios every year. He also wants the Comanche program to go faster, even though critics say the program has been bedeviled by failure to meet its range targets.
