Many government officials seem to fear and resist globalization, primarily because they suspect the increasing power of the market will diminish the power of the government. Governments also tend to blame global markets for unpopular decisions, but in fact governments have about as much control as ever.

Is government disappearing?

Article Abstract:

Many critics of globalisation claim that economic integration has reduced the power of the state. However, globalisation tends to limit the power of government in positive ways, and does in fact lead to higher demand for social spending.

Article Abstract:

Critics of globalisation claim it imposes restraints on government and is leading to the 'shrinking' of politics. In fact, many formerly left-wing politicians have used globalisation as an excuse for moving to the centre.
