Article Abstract:
Falls in stock prices have affected blue-chip companies and high-tech firms. US demand may drop, and big-ticket items are most likely to be hit by drops in consumption. Companies dealing with corporate customers may be worst hit as firms invest less. Mergers are acquisitions may be affected, though drops in stock prices could make acquisitions cheaper, so more desirable. US executives are also likely to see a drop in the value of their stock options, though these could recover their value.

Article Abstract:
Stock market activity in the United States is once again bullish but it seems unlikely that 1997 will fare better than 1996. The stock market is seeing a rise in the prices of initial public offerings but the trend has been checked and is beginning to level off. The increase in investment activity however, is seen to again push the prices of securities but it seems unlikely that prices will be higher for 1997.
