Standard Chartered raises mortgage rates in Hong Kong

Article Abstract:

Standard Chartered Bank in Hong Kong has raised its rates on residential mortgage loans due to higher Interbank lending rates. The company has effectively pegged its rates at 9.75% from prices between 9.25% and 9.5% according to company regional treasurer Stanley Wong. Mortgage banks have been putting off interest rate increases due to fears of a dampening property and stock markets and the company's move is seen to signal the start of a trend of higher rates being set by most mortgage banks.
