Article Abstract:

Architects working on the transformation of the former Liverpool Street station into a modern, yet Victorian-styled hotel had to cope with many serious flaws in the original design and construction of the station's buildings. One of the main aims of the restoration was to retain many of the most outstanding original features and combine them with modern hotel fixtures, such as lighting and heating systems. The Manser Practise was the main architect involved in the design of the Great Eastern Hotel, London.

Article Abstract:

The industrial sites of the nineteenth century are being developed into cultural spaces, such as canal districts being transformed into scenic walkways with cafes. Issues concerning the fabric of the economy changing from goods to services are presented, with reference to the place of architecture.
