BASF pretax profit fell 50% in quarter

Article Abstract:

BASF AG posted a decline of 50% in its pretax profits for the second-quarter of 1999. However, chief executive officer Juergen Strube predicted that the company would escape from its present downward spiral. BASF posted 380 million euros in pretax profits for the period. During the same period in 1998, the company posted 765 million euros. Mr. Strube said that BASF would take advantage of opportunities in the chemical industry.

Clariant's revenue falls on slowdown
