French candidates are hardly campaigning at all because of new restrictions on advertising and an unusual political climate. The French people prefer not to discuss political preferences in public, so candidates usually adopt low-key methods of campaigning such as direct mail.

After the first round of parliamentary elections it is evident that the people of France do not care who wins. Voter turnouts are low because all the politicians have similar rhetoric. The conservative politicians are winning because they are for protectionism and nationalism.

The French are apathetic about the upcoming elections because neither the Conservatives nor the Socialists are properly addressing the country's high unemployment rate. France's unusually high minimum wage and the fixed exchange rate are hurting the economy.
