ATT's voice recognition computers are replacing up to a third of the long-distance telephone company's 18,000 human operators. The computers not only listen, they also respond and route customers who carefully use five simple phrases. Voice recognition technology is also discussed.

A group of manufacturers lead by Intel have developed low-cost super computers through massively parallel processing (MPP). Cray Research currently has 2!3 of the super computer market, but it is restructuring and changing objectives to maintain competitiveness.
