Article Abstract:

Japanese nationalists are concerned about the upcoming visit by Emperor Akihito to China, the first by a Japanese emperor there in over 2,000 years. China has always gotten the better of diplomatic relations between the two nations, and Japan does not want the Chinese to use the visit to score a diplomatic coup.

Article Abstract:

China and Japan hoped that the visit of Chinese Communist Party general secretary Jiang Zemin to Tokyo would usher in a new era of friendlier relations between the two Asian powers. However there were too many areas of disagreement for there to be any significant diplomatic breakthrough.
