Article Abstract:

The reaction to school shootings in the US has been to call for increased security, and President Clinton has promised grief counsellors. Teenagers have violent fantasies world wide, yet only in the US can they obtain guns so easily. Gun laws have been tightened after shootings in Britain and Australia, yet the US appears unable to take this option. Gun control is needed if levels of lethal violence are to be reduced in the US. There is a possibility that the shootings in Colorado could change US attitudes.
