The US has enjoyed economic growth for 107 months, the longest period ever recorded, and unemployment has dropped to low levels without inflation rising. The business cycle has not disappeared, though its nature may have changed. A drop in commodity prices and the Asian crisis have eased inflationary pressures, though this is changing. There is also concern about consumer and corproate debt and the current account deficit. Firm monetary policy may help prevent the need for drastic measures in the future.
