Air France posts rise in net profit to $317.5 million for its fiscal year

Air France, the flag-carrier of France, posted F1.87 billion, or $317.5 million, in net profit in the fiscal year ended Mar. 31, 1998, up from the company's net profit of F394 million for the last fiscal year. According to Air France, the company is on its way to achieve its profitability goals for the year 2000 once normal operating situation will continue to prevail. In the year 2000, Air France targets to reach a gross operating profit margin of 15%, an increase from 9.3% in gross operating profit margin in 1997, and 12% in gross operating profit margin in 1998. The French carrier had placed an order for 20 planes from Airbus Industrie, with an option for additional 20 aircraft.

Wanadoo swings to profit as costs come under control
