A&DG wins Moorgate deal
Article Abstract:
Nick Derbyshire's Architecture & Design Group (A&DG) have won the design contract for Moorgate station, London, England. Moorgate will be a gateway to the planned CrossRail link. A&DG was British Rail's in-house architects department and staff are technically employed by British Rail but work as a 'profit centre' within the company. A&DG has 45 staff based in London and York and has been competing for British Rail work. However, it does not intend to work exclusively on transport and has considerable conservation experience. It is interested in links with overseas groups.

Fast-track supertrain sheds by YRM
Article Abstract:
YRM Architects and Planners designed the sheds and associated buildings for the North Pole International rail depot in eight weeks. The depot will service trains running through the Channel Tunnel and began operating in 1992. The train sheds are of tubular steel which is external while the support buildings are cladded with smooth modular panels. The long, narrow site presented problems for the construction manager, Kier Management but the depot was finished on time and to budget. Architecturally, the buildings are attractive and functional.

Stratford Market Depot
Article Abstract:
Chris Wilkinson Architects' Stratford Market Depot is a working complex of buildings. The distribution of buildings on the site was set by accessibility demands, the inflexibility of old railway lines and the curves and straights of the new ones. A dramatic 30 deg diagonal grid was used the roof of the maintenance building. This required serious attention to stormwater disposal and maintenance and repair access.
