Wolfgang Pfarl, head of European operations of Sappi, says that in the medium term the South African group is to increase production capacity at the papermill in Gratkorn, Austria, from just under 500,000 tpy to 800,000 tpy. Due to the increase of speed at PM11 and the improvement of time efficiency, the investment volume in Gratkorn will be modest. Sappi has made investments of Sch 6.5bn in PM11 at the Gratkorn mill

Altpapier-Recycling-Organisation (ARO) reports that 507,000 tonnes of waste paper was collected through 520,000 containers in Austria in year 2000. The volume increased 5.7% and broke the previous record. Waste paper collection per capita amounted to 62.6 kg. The entire amount of waste paper recovered in Austria was taken by the domestic paper and board industry.
