AUSTRIA: ECKES, YBBSTALER REORGANISATION

Article Abstract:

Ybbstaler Obstverwertung, the Austrian fruit processing company, is being split into two units. Raiffeisen Ware Austria (RWA) is the sole owner of a new company called Ybbstaler Fruchtsaft, which will sell semifinished products such as concentrated fruit juice, fruit aroma and fruit sweeteners. Meanwhile Eckes-Granini, which acquired half of Ybbstaler stock in 1994, has set up Eckes-Granini Austria, which will concentrate on branded products. The newly established companies will continue to cooperate. In year 2000 Ybbstaler generated a turnover of about EUR 95mn. The company employs 165 staff.

ROMANIA: TAKEOVER BY AUSTRIAN STEIREROBST

Article Abstract:

Austria's Steirerobst AG has taken a 95% stake in Romanian Carei-based Caragrimex SA, which produces fruit juice concentrates. Steirerobst is expecting turnover to exceed Sch 1bn in the fiscal year to 30 August 2000. In the first half of the fiscal year, turnover grew by 49% to Sch 456.5mn and profits on ordinary activities improved by 39% to Sch 15.1mn. In the second half of the fiscal year, Steirerobst is to invest Sch 60mn in the home country and another Sch 80mn in Romania, Ukraine and Hungary.

AUSTRIA: DECLINE IN JUICE MARKET

Article Abstract:

According to figures by Tetra Pak, consumption of fruit juice in Austria declined by about 5% in year 2000. The sales volume of nectars decreased by about 3%.
