Smith and Williamson has purchased mergers and acquisitions boutique Trabel Associates in a deal for an undisclosed sum. Tom Angear, founder of Trabel, will become a member of Chris Donald's team at Smith and Williamson. Trabel was the UK member of M and A Partners, which brings together 37 independent mergers and acquisitions consultancies and investment banking houses. Smith and Williamson believes that there is considerable potential for cross-border work.

A new Italian job for Sutcliffe

Arthur Andersen has appointed Brigid Sutcliffe as director of corporate finance services. Sutcliffe was formerly employed by Credito Italiano International in London as head of corporate finance. Arthur Andersen is currently focusing on boosting its position in Italy and other areas of southern Europe. The company currently has branches in Bologna, Treviso, Turin, Milan and Rome.
