A neural network for classifying the financial health of a firm

Article Abstract:

A neural network for estimating the future financial health of businesses is introduced. The neural network, which solves the hidden architecture problem encountered with other neural networks, is based on the Cascade-Correlation architecture proposed by Carnegie Mellon University's Scott E. Fahlman and Christian Lebiere. Its performance is better than multiple discriminant analysis of financial ratios because it does not make assumptions concerning the linear separability, multivariate normality and independence of the variables.

Economic and environmental power dispatch

Article Abstract:

Power dispatching problems are considered, based on their operational research aspects. The assessment involves both classic single criterion economic and environmental dispatch and multicriteria economic and environmental dispatch. Results show that power dispatching based on optimization are superior to intuitive methods and heuristics. Moreover, environmental protection is gaining the upper hand over economy.
