Pres Bush's comparisons between the Simpsons' and Waltons' television families is reminiscent of historian Gertrude Himmelfarb's denouncement of Victoria Woolf. Himmelfarb blames Woolf and her literary circle, the cultural elite of their day, for the fall of Great Britain.

An awkward balance: Jewish votes

Article Abstract:

Jews in the US comprise only 3% of the population, but they are a strong voting bloc. Pres Bush has alienated many Jews by seeming to be not supportive of Israel. He must concentrate on encouraging Middle East peace talks.
