Cossette Communication Marketing has been chosen by the Quebec government to handle all its media buys, estimated at $40 million. The Quebec, Quebec-based agency beat out Carat Stategem, Groupe BCP and Publicite Martin. The contract, which will begin in Jul 2000, includes the media buying of governement ministries, Crown corporations and parapublic societies. The government's media buys was previously handled by several agencies.

Harrison Young Pesonen and Newell (HYPN), a media services company based in Toronto, Ontario, had to let go of 10 staff members after having lost two major accounts, namely the $58.7-million Labatt Breweries media buying assignment and the $15-million Sprint Canada account. At the same time, Patrick Walshe, the company's vice president of media buying, has announced his resignation to pursue a career in transactional media.
