GKN Westland was handed over the first production of the WAH-64 Apache for the British Army Air Corps at Mesa, AZ, facility of Boeing on Sep. 28, 1998. The handover happened after a successful 30-minute first flight on Sep. 25, 1998, that featured rearwards and sidewards flight to 83 kph (45 knots), forward flight to 111 kph (60 knots) and hover tests. The first eight production WAH-64s will be built by GKN Westland's subcontractor, Boeing, which will also deliver the fuselages for the remaining 59 aircraft.

GKN-Westland's first production WAH-64 Apache to be built at the company's plant in Yeovil, UK, has been handed over to the UK Army Air Corps (AAC) after a maiden flight on Jul 18, 2000. The helicopter, Z1172, passed all the standard production acceptance tests in an 18-min flight, during which the aircraft was flown to a maximum speed of 259 km/p. Delivery to the AAC occurred on Jul 31 in agreement with the contracted date established in Apr 1996.

The UK Army Air Corps received the first of 67 WAH-64 Apache helicopters from GKN Westland on Mar 15, 2000. The delivery is part of the contract placed by the UK Ministry of Defense in 1996 for 2 billion pounds sterling. Another eight WAH-64s are expected to be delivered within the year, with all deliveries to be completed in 2003. The WAH-64 is powered by Rolls-Royce Turbomeca/RTM322 engines.
