007 makes dramatic entrance to Bogota

Article Abstract:

The introduction of a 007 coded long-distance call service by Colombian Empresa de Telecommicaciones (ETB) has marked the beginning of an open market for Colombia's telecommunications industry. The new service will begin in July 1998 and will compete against the state-owned Telecom for the $1 billion market. Customers could see a reduction of 20% on long-distance call bills. ETB is valued at between $1.8 and $2.5 billion and has a market share of 37%. Colombia's telecommunications market was valued at $1.8 billion in 1996.

Eastern Europe Public Offer: TPSA

Article Abstract:

In November 1998, the Polish government sold 210m shares of Telekomumikacja Polska S.A. The proceeds were $924m. The sucess of the offer was attributed to investors recognizing the strenght of TPSA and the Polish market. The goverment was also praised for taking the lead in revitalizing Central European capital markets.
