Using combinations of heuristics to schedule activities of constrained multiple resource projects

Article Abstract:

The availability of resources in the project scheduling process is not taken into account in the two project scheduling techniques known as the Critical Path Method and Project Evaluation and Review Technique. Because of this shortcoming, project managers have used either optimal procedures to come up with true minimal duration schedules or heuristics to set priorities among project activities. Ten heuristics are used to develop a procedure for scheduling activities in a constrained multiple resource project.

Scheduling resource-constrained projects when non-conformities exist

Article Abstract:

Project scheduling techniques should consider the possibility of rework and delay to create realistic schedules. The scheduling rules that produce schedules with the least period of rework include Minimum Slack, Longest Job First, Greatest Resource Demand, Longest Path and Random. The Longest Path and Minimum Slack rules offer the best schedules which have the shortest project completion times or the largest net present value of project cash flows.
