Turkey asked for international help to eliminate the separatist Kurds who live in an enclave in Iraq and enact terrorist activity against Turkey. The Kurds hope to gain their freedom. The international community responded with hesitation for the call for help against the Kurds.

Kurds declare a tie in elections

Article Abstract:

Some one million Kurds voted in northeastern Iraq in elections for a legislature and a political leader. The results were a tie between the Kurdish Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan. The two political parties agreed to share power.

Hussein wins orchestrated vote

Article Abstract:

Iraqi Pres Hussein won 99.96% of the vote in the Oct 1995 referendum in which he was the only candidate. Deputy Izzat Ibrahim said that the vote legitimized Hussein's regime, but King Hussein of Jordan denounced the referendum.
