The country's growth may waiver between 2% and 3% with demand for domestic services and products declining. The Asian economic crisis could hurt exports as Asian companies compete more aggressively with discounted goods. More important is the availability of capital and the more sophisticated methods creditors are using to insure their loans are not lost to insolvency.

The Australian government and corporations must adopt policies that support the Australian economy's transformation into an information technology-based economy in order to ensure the international competitiveness of Australian business in a post-industrial world. The Australian government and corporations should pay less attention to US government and corporate policies that eschew public-private and more attention to the OECD's call for changes to corporate governance.

Risk margins diverge

Article Abstract:

Asia's economic problems have generated an increase in US bond investments, resulting in an increase in US currency value. This financial trend has resulted in a jump in the yield on lower-rated private corporate debt in relation to AAA-credit-rated bonds. Despite this trend, the margin on official debt in countries, such as France, UK, Canada, and Australia, has continued to drop after accounting for anticipated inflation rates.
