The transport sell-off rolls on

Article Abstract:

Victoria's public train, tram, and bus operations have been privatized into five businesses, and three companies will operate them beginning in August 1999. The United Kingdom's National Express, America's Metrolink, and Australia's Melbourne Transport Enterprises all won 500-page contracts. The contracts will expire in 10 to 15 years. The goal of the new owners is passenger growth, with National Express' target at up to 80%, Metrolink's is 60%.
