House Democrats asked Attorney General William P. Barr to appoint an independent counsel to rule on violations that were committed when the Bush administration was providing Iraq with assistance before the Persian Gulf War. Barr rejected the request.

Taiwan jet fighter sale approved by President Bush

Article Abstract:

Pres Bush agreed to sell F-16 fighters to Taiwan, even though a virtual ban on such sales exists. Bush claimed that the sale would save US jobs, but political experts believe that Bush was trying to win votes for reelection.

U.S. covert action against Saddam Hussein reported

Pres Bush, in late 1991, notified Congress that the US planned to overthrow Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. Bush was required to submit a report to Congress before receiving funding for the covert activities.
