Space station downsizing begun

Article Abstract:

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration revealed Mar 10, 1993, plans for redesigning the proposed space station 'Freedom' to make it smaller, less expensive and easier to build. The changes would include reducing the module's planned lifespan and requiring fewer space shuttle flights.

Joint U.S.-Russian missions planned

US delegates on a tour of space facilities in Russia announced that the US and Russia would conduct joint manned space flights. The US can benefit from Russia's expertise in life-support systems and spacewalking methods.

Russian cosmonaut returns home

Article Abstract:

Russian cosmonaut Sergei Krikalyov, who had been aboard the Mir space station since May 1991, returned home on Mar 25, 1992. The landing had been postponed from Oct 1991 due to budget cuts and political problems.
