Article Abstract:

The Repulican-controlled House and Senate passed defense budgets for $244 billion and $242.7 billion respectively. Both amounts are greater than the funding Pres Clinton requested, but less than the budget for FY 1995. Budgets for defense authorization were also greater than Clinton sought.

House, Senate approve balanced-budget plans

Article Abstract:

Both versions of the proposed balanced-budget bills call for large cuts in Medicare and welfare, while increasing the defense budget. The tax cuts called for by both branches differ greatly in their source and use. Reductions in federal administration costs are also part of the packages.

'95 spending cuts cleared, face veto

Article Abstract:

The House and Senate passed a budget bill that recommends cuts that total $16.4 billion for federal programs from FY 1995. The cuts included areas such as job training and education, and Pres Clinton said he wold veto the proposed budget because of where the cuts will appear.
