It is common practice for many companies to award deserving employees. These awards are handed out on the basis of length of service, performance and suggestions of cost-saving and profitable ideas. The results of 393 companies surveyed revealed that out of the 88% of employers that recognize length of service, 66% award first-time awards to five-years servers; out of the 64% that recognizes performance, single-accomplishment awards are credited to 92% while group achievements make up 52%; of the 42% that recognizes suggestions, 92% are awarded for cost-saving ideas.

The perfect way to inspire and incite workers to be productive may be through group incentives. A survey revealed that of the firms that provide group incentives, 80% affirm that employees easily adopt the plan. The most successful group incentive schemes are usually characterized by a sense of identity, challenging goals that are attainable, a compromise between salary and incentive pay and complete comprehension by employees on how the scheme functions.

Proper management of employees' wages can be an effective instrument for inducing workers to perform well and directing their cooperation to attain corporate objectives. A realistic compensation program links work conduct and remuneration. The elements of an effective salary program are objectives, importance of pay, comparison with other salary programs, compensation levels, other benefits, leverage, individual versus team incentives and responsibility.
