Article Abstract:
Latin America is in the midst of a major economic transition. Many countries in the region are implementing institutional reforms, opening their markets to competition and forming regional trade blocks. The pivotal role played by private companies in economic change has also thrust them into the new role of protagonist. This was proven in the involvement of business leaders in developing the agenda for a recent meeting of Pan American heads of state.

Article Abstract:
A study is conducted on the feasibility of establishing a free trade zone in El Salvador. The characteristics of Costa Rican trade zones are considered due to the country's similarity with El Salvador. It is shown that prospective sites for free zones in El Salvador should have nearby communities and capital cities, public transportation services, good road infrastructure and sufficient power and water supply.
