Article Abstract:
Higher oil prices and industry consolidation in 1999 has allowed the petroleum (integrated) industry to increase profits at the end of the decade. However, Middle Eastern political problems, overseas drilling, global warning, and renewable energy sources are issues which the industry must deal with in the future. These stocks are untimely overall in the 4th qtr of 1999, but there are some good values in several secondary issues.

Higher prices for crude petroleum and refined products have been good news for the petroleum (integrated) industry early in the year 2000. Petroleum drilling results have also improved and domestic refining profits are expected to increase, as well. These stocks are timely for the years 2000 and 2001, and most issues have good prospects for the future.

Good refining margins, along with high oil and gas prices, have given the petroleum (producing) industry good profits in early 2001. President George W. Bush's energy policy is tilted toward the industry, and OPEC will have to manage production quotas in response to new non-OPEC oil discoveries. These stocks are timely for investors in 2001.
