PNG gets serious about corruption

Article Abstract:

The Papua New Guinea Ombudsman Commission is appealing to the Australian government for assistance in investigating allegations of corruption in business and property deals involving PNG Prime Minister Bill Skate and others. A report prepared by the National Intelligence Organisation revealed the use of violence, smuggling, murder, and conspiracy to murder.

Turmoil puts mining agreements in doubt

Political and economic change in Indonesia could affect the future of mining agreements that Australian companies have in the region. Independence movements in Irian Jaya and East Timor could affect exploration, production and licensing agreements that Australian mining and petroleum companies have with Indonesia in its two colonies.
