On reading Pope's Homer

Article Abstract:

Pope spent the year 1713-1720 translating the 'Illiad', producing what many consider to be a work of great lyrical beauty, that Samuel Johnson called the greatest translation ever. Its rhyming structures are analyzed, and compared to a modern, literal translation by Richmond Lattimore.
