New ad scanner fails to prove itself helpful or convenient to use

Article Abstract:

DigitalConvergence's CueCat plugs into a computer and reads bar codes as well as cues, which are printed by articles and ads in the print media. Then the CueCat, a hand-held cat-shapped gizmo, sends the customer to the relevant Web site. Radio Shack is so excited about advertisers making a direct connection to the Internet, it is giving CueCats away free. That company, as well as Forbes, Coca-Cola, newspapers and others are behind DigitalConvergence. The author found the product inconvenient and not useful.

Mavica camera proves the rule that simpler is frequently better

Article Abstract:

It seems that most digital cameras and equipment are too expensive, the photos aren't as detailed as a normal camera, and you can only see the photos on a computer (which is difficult to say the least). Sony has come out with two products that are simple, effective and inexpensive, the Digital Mavica FD81 (camera) and the Mavica FVP-1 Photo Printer. The camera is around $680 and the printer is about $425 and it doesn't require a PC. The plus about the whole Mavica line is that the images are stored on a floppy disc that doesn't require special hook-ups or programs to run. You can take it right out of the camera and put it directly into your computers disk drive.
